Brilliant Poetry Reading!

November 6th, 2009 Geoff Comments off

What a gorgeous wild night it was! From the amazing opening Carmel Collins performance to the rapturous trance of river rapids that was George Erikson to a fine moving recitation of Henry Reed’s great “The Naming of Parts” by Donnie Stanford and finally to James Leavitt’s mesmerizing “Triptych”, a collection of his signature short poems packed tight like haiku with deep resonating wonder and bittersweet essence! The crowd was more than attentive and we thank you all for that! Let’s see you all again next month for some more fine inspiration straight from the heart!

Postcard Project

October 31st, 2009 Geoff Comments off

From Mark DeCarteret, Poet Laureate:

First introduced in the late 19th century, postcards provided a cheap and convenient alternative to letters (honey, have you seen my sealing wax?), reaching their peak in 1908 when 677 million were handled by the post office. The Portsmouth Poet Laureate Program thinks their moment has come once again; this time with a bit of a twist. Wish You Were Where?: The Postcard Project encourages poets of all ages and abilities to send one of their poems (along with a stamp and return address) to an artist of their choice (as many as they’d like as long as each written piece is different) who will respond to the work by providing an illustration as the front of the postcard. And then drop it in a mailbox. …(more)

Brand New Website for EFG Books!

October 30th, 2009 Geoff Comments off

EFG Books & Gallery has just launched a new website. Once again SlickFish Studios in Portland has built a beautiful site that flows very nicely with our sister sites, Nine Point Publishing and Omphalos, also by SlickFish.

Archived on the site is at least one representative piece of art from every show we’ve had in our gallery, giving every artist their own page that includes contact information as well as all relative biographical and show related information. Artists can also now apply right on the website to have a show in the gallery, as well as upload up to three images for review.

And finally, in addition to a sign-up form for our monthly poetry readings, there will be audio recordings of every reading available for streaming 24 hours a day!
